VOTE TO GROW ST. LOUIS
Monsanto has a long history of providing generous support to the St. Louis region, donating approximately $9 million last year and more than $97 million since 2000. Now is your chance to vote for the St. Louis area non-profit projects you think Monsanto should support.
Over 300 St. Louis area non-profits, including Sunnyhill, Inc., have submitted entries into Monsanto's Grow St. Louis contest. Public voting will determine the top three winners of $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 grants from Monsanto.
You are invited to www.stlgrown.com to vote for Sunnyhill, Inc.. You can vote up to 100 times per day from Sept. 26 through Oct. 16. So vote daily and vote often!
Our project entry is called The Sunnyhill Social Club. Growth-- venturing out in new directions, performing, achieving, making life sing-- the Sunnyhill Social Club provides opportunities for growth to people with developmental disabilities in the St. Louis area.
The Sunnyhill Social Club provides activities that allow people to interact with their peers, gain new experiences and enjoy themselves. Activities include trips to local attractions, bowling, cooking classes and participation in a community choir, about four activities a month. Having those experiences outside the home also helps people with disabilities connect with their community. They become familiar with the community at large and venture out more often, Mitchell says. People in the community also become more familiar with people with disabilities and grow as well.
Currently, the program which was funded last year is not funded. Most people who receive care from Sunnyhill live on very limited means that leaves very little money for personal use. If Sunnyhill’s Social Club wins the contest, the money would be used to fund transportation, tickets to local attractions, bowling, materials for classes, and music and sound equipment for the choir.
