Advocating for Bradley and His Family

Bradley’s family connected with SUNNYHILL’S ADVOCACY SERVICE after meeting our Family Navigator at the 2025 Cerebral Palsy Family Day, presented in partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s Cerebral Palsy Clinic. As Bradley’s medical and developmental needs continued to increase, his family sought support in accessing the MOCDD/Sarah Lopez Waiver and the resources needed to help him remain safely at home.

In July 2026, Bradley experienced significant medical challenges, including three shunt revisions and two gastrointestinal procedures. These complications highlighted the growing need for additional supports, respite, and medically appropriate care. Because Bradley requires extensive daily care, his mother is only able to work part-time, and finding respite providers with the experience to meet his complex needs has been challenging.

SUNNYHILL’S Family Navigator worked alongside Bradley’s parents to help them understand the waiver process, prepare necessary documentation, and confidently communicate Bradley’s needs to DMH representatives and legislators. Rather than advocating on the family’s behalf, the Navigator provided education, coaching, and guidance so Bradley’s parents could lead their own advocacy.

Through this collaboration, Bradley was successfully removed from the MOCDD/Sarah Lopez Waiver waitlist and approved for active waiver funding. The waiver will provide access to critical therapies, medically related supports, and in-home and out-of-home respite.

Bradley’s story demonstrates the power of partnership. With the right support and advocacy, families can navigate complex systems, access essential resources, and build a stronger path forward for their loved ones.
