Megan: I Am A Cook

Since joining the Sunnyhill ISLA program in 2016, Megan has transformed into a confident and engaging woman who loved both socializing and challenging herself to learn new skills. In her recent journey, she had decided it was time to focus on her health and fitness goals. Megan decided to turn her attention to another passion: cooking.

The thought of preparing low-carb meals excited her, and the library became her next destination. With her staff by her side, they spent the afternoon exploring various recipes, flipping through pages filled with tantalizing dishes. After careful consideration, Megan selected a few recipes that intrigued her the most, her heart set on learning to cook meals that would nourish her body.

Back in the kitchen, Megan gathered all the ingredients needed for the intricate 15-step meal. Megan’s staff took the time to review important aspects of kitchen safety, particularly knife skills. They discussed how to hold and utilize the knives properly, ensuring Megan felt confident as she prepared to chop six different vegetables. This was a new area for her, but she was ready to dive in.

Next, they explained the importance of oven safety, another aspect that made Megan slightly nervous. “You can do this,” her staff encouraged. Slowly, Megan built her confidence, realizing that with her support staff, she could take on anything. The meal prep was an engaging process that lasted over two hours. Together, they sliced, diced, and mixed her chosen ingredients. Megan diligently followed the recipe, her excitement palpable as she ticked off each step. The aroma of fresh vegetables and spices began to fill the air, and with each task accomplished, her pride grew.

At the end of the cooking session, Megan stood back to admire her creation. A vibrant dish decorated the countertop, a testament to their hard work and Megan’s determination. Megan had managed to cook a 15-step meal from start to finish, overcoming challenges and learning along the way.
